About The Position

OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is seeking a dynamic Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their growing pediatric gastroenterology team. This team includes 10 pediatric gastroenterologists, a pediatric psychologist, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 3 dieticians, 5 RNs, and dedicated social work support. The department is focused on building centers of clinical excellence within pediatric gastroenterology, embracing multidisciplinary collaboration, and is actively involved in clinical care, education, and research. The APP will primarily support the outreach population, with a focus on Eugene or Medford, with the specific location determined and reviewed annually based on patient needs. APPs in this role manage their own patient panels with physician support for complex cases. The position is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 2000 hours over 500 (4) hour clinic sessions per year, including daytime, weekday coverage. The APP will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including call responsibilities, ensuring equitable distribution and safe clinical operations. Clinical activities include direct pediatric gastroenterology patient care, independent and shared billing, and departmental activities focused on safe, efficient, high-quality, and customer-oriented patient management. This includes comprehensive assessments, developing evidence-based treatment plans, managing common acute and chronic health problems, interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing and managing medications, and providing health teaching. Indirect patient care activities include EPIC in-basket management, MyChart messages, closing charts, reviewing results, phone calls, patient care coordination, caseload management, court or legal appearances, care conferences, work group huddles, non-RVU generating patient care, non-billable patient care, taking call, and filling gaps due to staff shortages. All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU by working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP) from an accredited program, a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner), OR Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program.
  • Prior experience in Pediatrics.
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Current RN and APRN NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing OR Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
  • Current national ANCC Certification in the area of specialization OR Current NCCPA Certification.
  • Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position.
  • DEA Certification.
