About The Position

Family Health West (FHW) is a physician-led organization dedicated to transforming the health of communities in Western Colorado. Our 25-bed critical access hospital offers 24/7 emergency services, a multi-specialty clinic facility, robust rehabilitation clinics, and comprehensive imaging and lab services. We are seeking a team player, willing to develop and grow an orthopedic program, who enjoys working closely with a multi-specialty group and communicates well with patients and colleagues. The candidate will perform comprehensive evaluations for hip, knee, and shoulder injuries, assist in the operating room, conduct physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, provide patient education, prescribe medications, participate in developing patient care protocols, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and maintain accurate patient records using EMR systems. The practice offers a full spectrum of orthopedic care, including elective cases and surgical procedures ranging from soft tissue repairs to total joint replacements. Rehabilitation services are available on-site and in surrounding clinics, and the strong Emergency Department can handle fracture and dislocation reductions and stabilization.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Unrestricted license to practice in the state of Colorado
  • Unrestricted DEA permit to prescribe medications
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Immunizations required for employment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in orthopedics is preferred, but not required
  • Surgical first-assist experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hip, knee, and shoulder related injuries and conditions.
  • Assist in the operating room, including preoperative planning, surgical assistance, and postoperative management.
  • Conduct physical examinations, obtain medical histories, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, surgeries, post-operative care, and rehabilitation options.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations.
  • Participate in the development of patient care protocols and treatment strategies.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, to optimize patient care.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
