About The Position

Seeking full-time APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our dynamic, team-based ED Observation Unit. Job responsibilities will include managing acute and chronic illness in the adolescent, adult and geriatric populations with predicted short hospital stays. Shifts will include day, evening, night, shared weekends and holidays. Experience is preferred, but enthusiastic new grads will be considered. We offer a tailored, 10-week orientation to set you up with a strong foundation in this fast-paced environment. The role has strong physician support, but there is also opportunity to function at the top of your scope for those seeking autonomy as an APP. We have Observation Units at in Roanoke, Christiansburg, Lexington and Rocky Mount. The primary role would be in Roanoke, with one secondary location at one of the outside community hospitals. More details will be discussed for serious applicants.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Nurse Practitioners must also hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
  • Must be eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required as appropriate to the position.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing, and applicable certifying bodies.
  • Must meet practice and managed care credentialing requirements and qualify for malpractice insurance coverage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer systems required.
