About The Position

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dedicated Hospital-Based Hematology/Oncology team serving Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Maryland. This role offers a unique opportunity to practice at the top of your license, working collaboratively with nationally recognized hematologists and oncologists. Our hospital APPs are integral to the inpatient management of complex oncology and hematology patients, ensuring seamless continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient settings. The position involves managing a diverse patient population, including those with acute and chronic hematologic disorders, benign hematology conditions, oncology treatment complications, hospital-based cancer care, and symptom management. Exposure to cutting-edge cancer therapies such as immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and cellular therapies is also a key aspect of this role. The position emphasizes professional growth through structured onboarding, mentoring, and opportunities in quality initiatives, research, education, and leadership. A supportive work-life balance is promoted through a dedicated hospital-based role, collaborative team approach, and a predictable Monday to Friday schedule with no call requirements.

Requirements

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program OR Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program OR Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
  • This position is entry-level and typically requires a minimum of 0-3 years post MSN experience, preferably in the chosen specialty OR 0-3 years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, preferably in the chosen specialty.
  • RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner OR Current state license as a Physician Assistant OR Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification (for Physician Assistant track).

Responsibilities

  • Involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis, either in clinic or virtually via telemedicine.
  • Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research.
  • May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
  • Play an integral role in the inpatient management of complex oncology and hematology patients.
  • Help to ensure seamless continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Manage a diverse patient population including: Acute and chronic hematologic disorders, Benign hematology conditions, Oncology treatment complications, Hospital-based cancer care, Symptom management and supportive care.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge cancer therapies including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and cellular therapies.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, research, education, and leadership activities.
