This APP Fellowship in Cardio Thoracic Surgery at Emory Healthcare provides advanced training for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners. Fellows will function at the highest level of autonomy, providing high-acuity care under the supervision of a cardiothoracic surgeon. The role involves examining, evaluating, and treating patients with diverse medical acuities requiring invasive and interventional procedures. Responsibilities span the operating room, ICU, step-down unit, and outpatient areas, encompassing pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care. Fellows will gain proficiency in critical procedures such as central line placement, swan ganz insertion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, intra-aortic balloon insertion and removal, conduit harvest, chest closure, and first and second assisting in cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. Patient and family education on risks, outcomes, and health maintenance is also a key component. The position may require clinical coverage across up to five hospital sites performing adult cardiothoracic surgery.
