Apigee API Developer

540 is seeking an Apigee API Developer to assist in the modernization of a Department of Defense (DoD) platform. The role involves establishing API design standards and best practices, as well as implementing API governance standards across the platform. The ideal candidate should have experience with API gateways and management platforms, proficiency in RESTful API design, and knowledge of authentication and authorization methods. Additionally, familiarity with cloud architectures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.

• Define, document, and publish API Design standards and best practices
• Work with component teams to define and implement API Governance standards across the platform
• Develop in one or two modern coding languages/frameworks (Python, JavaScript, Node.js, Java, SpringBoot, etc)
• Utilize API Gateways and API Management platforms such as Google Apigee, Amazon API Gateway, Azure API Management, IBM API Connect
• Proficient in RESTful API design, building, and consumption
• Experience with OpenAPI (fka Swagger)
• Understand various methods of authentication and authorization via APIs (PKI, OAuth2, JWT, LDAP, SAML, etc)
• Work on Agile projects and development
• Understand core principles of cloud architectures and experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or AWS
• Corral, define, and document technical requirements for developer implementation
• Identify performance issues at the app, API, and data tiers and offer solutions
• Have a broad understanding and experience with various frameworks, tools, and technologies
• Understand HTTP and TLS/SSL
• Learn quickly and become an expert on new technologies
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Work independently with clients and be a team player
• Take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion
• Obtain or have the ability to get a security clearance
• Nice to have skills: Apigee Certified API Engineer, experience with CI/CD environments and tools, ability to define and execute integration tests, experience with Developer Portal, knowledge of non-RESTful data interfaces (SOAP, Web Sockets, GraphQL, etc), experience with securing sensitive data.

• Understanding of HTTP and TLS/SSL
• Ability to learn quickly and "become an expert" on something that you don't have previous knowledge/experience on
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently (as if on an island) with clients, but also be a consummate team player
• Can take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion (ie, figure out the next steps without being told explicitly)
• Must have or be able to get a security clearance
• Currently attained or able to become an Apigee Certified API Engineer (Google Cloud)
• Significant experience with Apigee's API Management Platform
• Good knowledge of CI/CD environments and tools
• Ability to define, create, and execute integration tests (API testing, unit testing, etc)
• Experience standing up a Developer Portal
• Knowledge of non-RESTful data interfaces (SOAP, Web Sockets, GraphQL, etc)
• Experience with securing sensitive data (including security marking standards such as DoD Banner Lines or ISM)
