About The Position

The AP Manager leads Talon's North American accounts payable function, reporting to the Director of Transactional Finance. This role is responsible for invoice processing, vendor payments, and the day-to-day operations of the AP function. It involves managing AP automation technology and the controls that safeguard the payment lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a team of AP Specialists across the US and Canada and is central to the operational integrity of the finance function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 6+ years of accounts payable experience, including team leadership

  • Strong understanding of AP controls and payment security best practices

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, vendor payments, and expense management, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across high volumes.
  • Operate and optimize the AP automation platform, driving straight-through processing, reducing manual intervention, and ensuring the platform is used to its full capability.
  • Maintain and strengthen controls across the payment and vendor management lifecycle, including vendor master data integrity, bank detail verification, payment approval workflows, and segregation of duties.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor payment queries, building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders and resolving issues promptly.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the AP specialist team across multiple locations, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the month-end close by ensuring accurate and timely AP sub-ledger close, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Establish and monitor AP performance metrics, reporting on processing volumes, aging, and process health to the Director of Transactional Accounting.
  • Identify and implement improvements to AP processes, increasing efficiency and scalability as the North American business grows and integrates acquired entities.
  • Ensure AP processes comply with company policy, tax requirements (including 1099 and Canadian equivalents), and audit standards.
  • Partner with procurement, operations, the FP&A team, and finance colleagues to support cash flow management and resolve payment issues.
