About The Position

Performs accounting and clerical tasks related to the accurate and timely processing and payment of accounts payable. This is a Salary Non-Exempt position.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year accounting experience.
  • Basic understanding of math and accounting principles.
  • Use of personal computer, calculator, and 10-key.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Accurate data entry skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Accounts payable experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Preference for food processing or manufacturing organization experience.
  • Some college, especially accounting classes.
  • Military experience.

Responsibilities

  • Processes invoices, including matching invoices to related paperwork and entering them into the accounting system.
  • Ensures accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures for invoice processing.
  • Generates reports to identify discrepancies and researches/corrects errors, obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Performs multiple payment runs (checks and electronic payments).
  • Gathers and matches supporting documentation for payments, reviews for anomalies, and makes corrections.
  • Distributes checks and reconciles balance forward accounts.
  • Ensures timely payment within vendor terms.
  • Resolves vendor concerns by answering phone calls and emails, reviewing statements, and researching records.
  • Works with vendors to determine resolutions and confirms with supervisors.
  • Cross-trains with other accounting employees to ensure continuity of functions.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, contributing to the development and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Fosters team cohesiveness and addresses issues related to direction, plans, budgets, and policy changes.
  • Understands and supports Simmons' operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and communicates concerns or improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
