About The Position

This position serves as a Permitting Coordinator in the Permitting Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). The Section reviews requests to do work within the State highway right-of-way and helps ensure proposed work meets VTrans requirements. This role focuses on reviewing, preparing, and processing routine highway permits for non-Agency related projects. You will work with property owners, businesses, municipalities, utility companies, consultant engineers, and VTrans staff to review applications and plans, gather information, prepare permits for issuance, answer questions, and keep permits moving through the process. The work includes reviewing work requests in the field, collecting field information, and participating in meetings to better understand proposed projects and help ensure permitted work meets requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field AND one (1) year of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
  • Associate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, or related field AND three (3) years of experience as described above.
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND five (5) years of experience as described above.
  • One (1) year as an AOT Technician II with the State of Vermont.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable communicating clearly with a variety of people in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Ability to review plans and documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate requirements clearly.
  • Ability to work both in the office and in the field.
  • Private means of transportation must be available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in permitting, transportation engineering, construction, or land development is helpful.
