About The Position

The Counselor I delivers face-to-face rehabilitative programming services in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP) at an in-prison facility. The role involves providing evidence-based programming to participants, supporting their progress and release planning, and working collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS headquarters, the local institution, and contracted staff. Duties are performed on-site in a state prison.

Requirements

Be registered with an organization approved by DHCS and obtain AOD certification within five years of the registration date.
Understand the causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse, and appreciate its behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects.
Have knowledge of the contractual requirements of ISUDTP.
Have excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
Have operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS.
Maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures associated with substance abuse treatment participants.
Demonstrate ethical behavior to maintain professional standards and safeguard participants.
Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and the confidentiality of records and participant information.

Responsibilities

Facilitate Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) classes using evidence-based, standardized curricula.
Conduct classes and individual sessions to develop release prevention/action plans and provide make-up work.
Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to classes.
Document delivery of CBI programming services in ARMS.
Engage participants daily and reinforce group norms and expectations for participation and completion.
Work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS headquarters, the local institution, and CDCR contracted staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Contractor.
