About The Position

The Bureau of Communicable Disease (BCD), within the Division of Disease Control, is responsible for the surveillance, prevention, and control of numerous infectious diseases. The Antimicrobial Resistance Unit (ARU) within BCD focuses on AR Data and Surveillance, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Antimicrobial Stewardship, and One Health. This role will serve as the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) lead for NYC, supporting various initiatives through data analysis and reporting.

Requirements

• A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
• Must be a NYC resident or become one within 90 days of hire.
• Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information.
• Proficiency in Statistical Analysis Software (SAS).
• Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Critical thinking and sound judgment.
• A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; OR
• A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; OR
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described above.
• Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) lead for NYC, learning its features, functions, and data to support ARU, BCD, NYS, and CDC initiatives.
• Conduct routine and ad hoc analyses of NHSN data and prepare reports.
• Participate in CDC webinars, liaise with NYS DOH and other partners, and support NYC facilities with NHSN use.
• Provide analytical support for antimicrobial resistance/infection prevention and control projects, including surveillance of carbapenem-resistant organisms (CRO), Candida auris (C. auris), and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
• Assist with core ARU duties such as CRO case investigations, data cleaning, and quality assurance.
• Participate in ARU initiatives like whole genome sequencing, identification of community-associated cases, and One Health activities.
• Support project management based on data analytics.
• Present results of data analyses to internal and external stakeholders.
