About The Position

The Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Survivor Support Specialist, part of The Bloom Initiative serving Connecticut, provides comprehensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking. This role serves as the primary point of contact for survivors, coordinating essential services and resources to address their complex needs, including emotional and mental health, housing/shelter, employment, medical, and legal support. The position also involves participation in street outreach, program planning, drop-in centers, and community education. Responsibilities include operating within program budgets, serving as a program liaison, and fulfilling administrative requirements such as submitting progress reports and data entry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related social services field
  • Two years of case management experience required
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently on assigned duties and willingness to seek and accept supervision as needed
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathetic listening
  • Excellent organizational and case file/documentation management skills
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and survivor-centered approach
  • Linguistic and cultural competency to holistically serve survivors of human trafficking
  • Maintain ethical conduct by organizational policy and conduct business in a manner consistent with the organization's policies
  • Unquestioned confidentiality with sensitive personal information
  • Working knowledge of the functions of community organizations, social services, public benefits, health care systems, and related human services
  • Will respect and promote the interests of The Salvation Army

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience of at least two years working with survivors of human trafficking or other victims of crime preferred
  • Experience should include providing direct service to underserved populations
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
  • Experience in public speaking and speaking to small groups is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess survivors initially and evaluate needs before proceeding with safety planning, service orientation, support, and referrals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing an outreach plan that incorporates awareness campaigns, street outreach, and drop-in efforts.
  • Assist outreach workers with street outreach and drop-in center programs.
  • Assist survivors in accessing resources, including shelter, emotional and mental health services, medical care, employment services, legal assistance, and other services as outlined in their individualized service plan.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers to support outreach efforts.
  • Attend all anti-trafficking councils, committees, and community meetings as requested.
  • Attend case review meetings with the AHT Coordinator as requested.
  • Attend relevant training, seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities as instructed.
  • Engage and support the community by participating in outreach efforts to increase human trafficking awareness and victim identification, including presentations on the program and human trafficking issues as requested by the supervisor.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed case notes and documentation for all contacts and services provided.
  • Provide comprehensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking that follow a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, survivor-centered approach.
  • Accompany survivors to appointments, social service agencies, meetings with law enforcement, etc.
  • Collaborate with survivors to develop a service plan and timeline based on identified goals and barriers.
  • Meet face-to-face with survivors throughout the month to review goals and make updates or changes to the plan.
  • Maintain weekly contact with survivors through phone calls and emails.
  • Refer and connect survivors to the appropriate Corps locations for pastoral care, adult and youth programs, and other relevant services.
  • Track program statistics and outcomes, enter data, draft reports, and submit reports as requested.
