About The Position

This position focuses on the strategic identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors with a strong emphasis on securing support for the Calvin Annual Fund. The Annual Giving Officer will work to increase both participation and philanthropic investment from current, lapsed, and prospective donors. Guided by a donor-centered approach, this position proactively engages individuals through personalized outreach strategies including video, text messaging, phone, digital communications, and in-person visits.

Requirements

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Draft correspondence, utilize social media, effectively communicate via phone calls, use various digital platforms such as texting and video.
  • Engage all communication channels to personally conduct proactive outreach to prospects.
  • Relationship building / interpersonal skills.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative work style.
  • Ability to manage details of multiple simultaneous events.
  • Creative, motivated, and enthusiastic.
  • The ability to work independently and proven ability to problem solve and work through challenges.
  • High level of computer literacy and strong attention to detail.
  • Possess a Christian commitment that is compatible with the mission of Calvin University and a desire to put faith in action through the Alumni programs.
  • The position requires the ability to regularly negotiate purchases; solicit financial donations from companies or individuals; write proposals; plan, supervise and appraise the work of others; interpret Calvin policies in situations requiring judgment and persuasion; and activities requiring excellent communication skills.
  • Handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information, which requires sensitivity and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with individual donors and prospects, cultivating relationships that lead to increased support for the Calvin Annual Fund.
  • Conduct 12 in-person donor visits per month to qualify prospects, advance relationships, and solicit gifts.
  • Develop and execute solicitation strategies aimed at growing annual giving revenue, donor retention, and donor participation.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Annual Giving to identify giving trends, analyze donor behavior, and develop creative solutions to increase philanthropic engagement.
  • Utilize personalized communication methods to steward and re-engage donors.
  • Collaborate with Prospect Research and Annual Giving staff to evaluate and promote qualified prospects.
  • Assist in recruiting and supporting volunteer fundraising ambassadors.
  • Support integrated Annual Fund campaigns with coordinated messaging and targeted outreach.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions in the CRM system.
  • Design and implement a student alumni engagement plan that encourages students to connect with various alumni programs and oversee and supervise the Student Philanthropy Council.
