Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Must be licensed with New Mexico Racing Commission
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy
  • Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
  • Written communication skills in in English may also be required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides live verbal record of races indicating name of horse, rider, lengths behind and any other descriptors for benefit of general public and simulcast audience of Zia Park Racetrack Races
  • Providing morning line odds for races.
  • Provides general announcements to public
  • Conveys pertinent information such as scratches, changes and any other updates of racing information as directed by Mutuel department or stewards
  • Provides explanations of infractions occurring on racetrack and resultant disqualifications
  • Provides on-air pre and post-race commentary on horses and participants in races including interviews with race participants
  • Coordinate with audio-visual department in developing content for daily simulcast presentation
  • Assists in coordinating needs for general or racing related media or promotional events before, during or after races
  • May require work during non-racing hours
