About The Position

Under the direction of the Animal Shelter Manager, this position is responsible for the daily cleaning and operation of the shelter. This position typically works 6.5 hour days, three days per week and is year-round. The applicant will need to have a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

  • General working knowledge of equipment and software needed to perform essential duties.
  • Effective public relation skills.
  • Work or volunteer experience involving the care, protection, or treatment of animals.
  • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Valid WI Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all areas of the shelter, including dog and cat kennels/cages daily, disinfecting, and bleaching as needed.
  • Check outside dog kennels frequently and remove feces.
  • Sweep floors daily and wash twice weekly, more often if necessary.
  • Dust all areas as needed and clean of cobwebs.
  • Run washing machine when full, dry laundry, fold, and put away.
  • Wash all dirty bowls and litter boxes daily.
  • Empty all waste baskets daily and for Wednesday dumpster pickup.
  • Clean bathroom weekly, more often if necessary.
  • Feed and water all shelter animals, ensuring food dishes are clean, food is fresh, and old food is discarded. Replenish food and water as necessary.
  • Exercise all shelter animals, including walking dogs daily and providing play time for cats a minimum of twice a week.
  • Keep all food and litter containers clean and filled.
  • Process all shelter forms regarding the intake/outtake of animals.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and assist customers courteously.
  • Process all incoming and outgoing animals.
  • Assist with euthanasia.
  • Maintain the grounds of the shelter, including mowing grass, removing feces, shoveling snow, and removing debris or litter.
  • Train volunteers/community service workers on cleaning duties.
  • Help with special projects at the shelter.
  • Share on-call duties including law enforcement calls and stray pick up.
  • Perform any other task requested by the shelter manager.
