As a Part-Time Animal Shelter Aide at the City of Pharr, you will play a vital role in the care and management of animals entering our facility. Your responsibilities will include performing visual evaluations of all animals, ensuring each one is tagged for identification. You'll be responsible for the daily cleaning and disinfection of kennels, carefully removing animals to maintain a safe and hygienic environment before returning them to their cages. Your duties will also involve feeding all animals according to established Standard Operating Procedures and responsibly managing the disposal of any sick, injured, or deceased animals. Requirements

  • Solid understanding of animal handling techniques and safety precautions
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Basic documentation skills to fill out work orders, dog bite reports, and other required paperwork
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions
  • Capacity to tactfully engage with the public
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees
  • Knowledge of handling animals, hazards and safety precautions of the work
  • Good verbal communication
  • Basic knowledge of all other required documentation and the ability for filling out paperwork, work orders, and dog bite reports
  • The ability to destroy and dispose of unclaimed and diseased animals, follow oral and written instructions, deal tactfully with the public, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public
  • Must pass a thorough criminal background check
