Maintains the animal services facility, captures and impounds animals located while on patrol or in response to complaints, disposes of certain animals using humane methods, and maintains appropriate records and reports. This role involves driving a vehicle while patrolling for stray, vicious, or injured animals and responding to citizen complaints. The officer will remove, impound, and care for stray and unwanted animals, maintain up-to-date records, and file reports on daily activities. Responsibilities also include issuing citations, warnings, responding to complaints, and potentially testifying in municipal court. The role requires removing dead animals, disposing of them properly, and performing euthanasia as necessary using humane methods after training and/or under close supervision. Additionally, the officer will make presentations to schools and civic groups about animal control and respond to emergency calls, such as animal bites and control of poisonous or dangerous animals, within 45 minutes. The position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and to observe all safety rules and procedures. Other duties as assigned may also be part of the role.
