About The Position

The Wake County Animal Center is seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic Animal Services Foster Coordinator to join their team. This role focuses on coordinating the placement of medically needy and behaviorally challenging animals into foster homes through various communication channels. The position also involves managing the administrative aspects of the Foster Program, including recruiting foster families, processing applications and transactions, responding to inquiries, developing protocols, participating in events, and providing support to the Transfer Coordinator. This role is crucial for improving the shelter's live-release rate and life-saving capabilities. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling animals, communicating with foster homes, and assisting with difficult decisions, making a significant impact on the lives of animals in their care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of experience in animal center operations
  • Valid Driver's License and a "safe" driving record
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills — outgoing, patient, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people.
  • Familiarity and knowledge with the care and humane handling of shelter animals, such as dogs, cats, and small critters.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook, and comfortable learning and using online information systems.
  • Ability to solve basic problems by considering a full range of options, finding solutions, and making decisions to resolve situations.
  • Knowledge of social media usage, ways to target community members, and communication and dissemination techniques, including alternative methods to inform and recruit animal fosters via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Skills in selecting and using training or instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years managing a volunteer and/or animal foster program with 20+ volunteers.
  • Two years of animal training experience.
  • Multilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the placement of eligible animals into foster homes using social media, email, and phone calls.
  • Manage administrative tasks of the Foster Program, including recruiting foster homes and processing applications.
  • Handle medically and behaviorally challenging animals.
  • Recruit, train, and coach families in the Foster Program.
  • Perform administrative work such as data entry and social media management.
  • Participate in off-site events.
  • Provide backup for the Transfer Coordinator.
  • Contribute to euthanasia statistics reduction and life-saving initiatives.
