About The Position

The City of Nacogdoches is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented Animal Services Assistant for its Community Services team. The role combines administrative and hands-on animal services work, including customer service, front desk duties, animal intake and handling, adoption coordination, and support for shelter operations and animal care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas driver's license.
• Strong computer, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Willingness to handle all types of household pets.
• Willingness to assist with shelter medical and euthanasia processes when necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Prior animal services experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly and professional customer service to patrons and visitors.
• Perform front desk clerical duties, including answering calls, managing records, processing check-ins and checkouts, and collecting fees.
• Assist with animal intakes and handle animals including dogs, cats, rodents, birds, and reptiles.
• Coordinate adoption applications and assist with transfers of animals to rescue organizations.
• Assist Animal Control Officers and staff with shelter cleaning, animal care, vaccinations, microchipping, and related duties as needed.
• Assist with shelter medical and euthanasia processes when necessary.
