About The Position

Responsible for sales of all animal nutrition and feed products/services, within an assigned territory, working closely with the Sales Manager and Sales Specialists to achieve marketing team goals. This role involves conducting sales calls, implementing company goals to grow the animal nutrition business, providing leadership for training and support needs, and developing sales/marketing strategies. The specialist will also develop and implement innovative sales programs and pricing strategies, participate in sales activities like trade shows, and create whole farm proposals. Additionally, they will expedite customer problem resolution, coach other specialists, maintain sales records, stay updated on market conditions and product knowledge, develop vendor relationships, conduct competitive analysis, identify progressive customers, quote prices, prepare sales contracts, and promote credit programs. Other duties include maintaining industry contacts, participating in presentations, maintaining a company vehicle, and adhering to company policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, marketing, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years animal nutrition selling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong reasoning ability to solve practical problems and handle customer and/or operational issues.
  • Demonstrated GROWMARK core competencies including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making, and skill development.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to travel independently and overnight.
  • Willingness to work hours beyond those considered “normal”.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in required training (e.g., GROWMARK’s policies and procedures, position-related training).

Responsibilities

  • Conducting animal nutrition sales calls with targeted customers.
  • Assisting species specialists with key account calls.
  • Implementing company goals and objectives to grow the animal nutrition business and develop profitable customer relationships.
  • Providing leadership for the development and implementation of animal nutrition training and feed team support needs.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of feed sales/marketing strategies that generate profitable sales.
  • Developing and implementing innovative sales programs and pricing strategies.
  • Participating in selected sales activities (customer meetings, trade shows, sales meetings) to stay informed on sales trends and the sales environment.
  • Creating and managing whole farm proposals by providing value-added animal nutrition products, services, and recommendations.
  • Expediting the resolution of customer problems and complaints.
  • Coaching and training other species specialists to develop recommendations for nutritional needs and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities and communicating sales activities with sales management.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, product pricing, advertising, and promotional trends.
  • Developing vendor relationships and communicating with vendors to ensure the animal nutrition team has necessary tools and training.
  • Completing and maintaining a competitive analysis for key competitors and assisting in developing strategies to grow the animal nutrition business.
  • Identifying progressive customers and coordinating the sharing of these lists with other sales representatives.
  • Quoting prices, preparing sales contracts, and promoting the use of credit programs as a sales tool.
  • Completing all required reports.
  • Maintaining industry and university contacts to stay informed on trends and product introductions.
  • Creating and participating in presentations during customer meetings and trade shows.
  • Maintaining the assigned vehicle according to company standards.
  • Following GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
