About The Position

This position is responsible for the intake coordination of stray and owner-surrendered animals of Montgomery County. The role involves providing customer service, coordinating animal intake following safety protocols, processing paperwork, educating customers on responsible pet guardianship, assisting with lost and found animals, administering vaccinations and dewormer, and maintaining the cleanliness of service desk areas. The position operates within an office/animal shelter setting and requires adherence to safety protocols and organizational core values.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of general office and customer service experience.
  • Two (2) years of animal handling experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Shelter Technician Certification
  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.
  • Knowledge of animal science and behavior as it relates to an Animal Shelter/Control environment.
  • Knowledge of animal disease and disease prevention and treatment.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computer software consistent for this position.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in analyzing complex administrative information and issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives, and recommending methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution of issues.
  • Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Skill in applying judgment and discretion in resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits requiring minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the intake of animals following safety protocol and accurately enters computer data and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Processes surrender paperwork and adoption applications.
  • Educates customers on responsible pet guardianship and animal care.
  • Assists customers seeking lost animals; assists customers with found animals.
  • Administers vaccinations and dewormer to animals upon intake.
  • Keeps service desk areas orderly, stocked, and cleaned following disinfections protocol.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers; addresses and resolves customer questions as able and refers complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Represents the Department and County to other County staff and members of the public.
  • Provides quality customer service to individuals needing directions or assistance.
