About The Position

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for a Full Time Animal Control Officer within the Department of Public Safety. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Senior Animal Control Officer and Animal Services Director.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in animal welfare or control environment, public health, law enforcement or a related field such as humane society, veterinary office, or kennel.
• Must be able to lift animals and equipment more than 100 pounds.
• Must be willing to obtain ACO certification and euthanasia certification within 6-8 months of hire.
• Must be a resident of Wakulla County to qualify.
• Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license is required.
• Applicants must pass a background investigation, driver’s license check and drug screening.
• Must be available to work weekends, early and late shifts, periodically be “on-call”, and available on short notice.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with the public preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responding to citizen calls for service, complaints, and requests from other agencies.
• Inspects and licenses kennels within Wakulla County jurisdiction.
• Makes periodic oral presentations to schools and various groups in educating the public on animal control issues.
• Issues notice of violations.
• Issues hearing notices.
• Acts as process server.
• Prepares written and oral reports involving contested cases.
• Assists prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office as required in cases or issues involving animals.
• Assisting with the day-to-day operations of maintaining the shelter.
