About The Position

Enforces a program of animal control to the community and promotes responsible animal ownership. This role involves capturing and impounding animals, investigating complaints, patrolling for compliance with ordinances, issuing citations, preparing reports, and testifying in court. It also includes performing health checks on quarantined animals, performing euthanasia, and participating in vaccination clinics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No experience required
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Integrity, honesty, dependability, industry, thoroughness, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, and courtesy
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological, and physical fitness test
  • Must successfully complete a minimum six (6) month probation period
  • Knowledge of principles of animal control
  • Knowledge of leash laws and applicable state statutes
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition
  • Knowledge of clerical office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of research techniques and report writing
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office software
  • Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
  • Skill in organization and adherence to detail
  • Ability to read street guides and maps
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public
  • Ability to keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department
  • Ability to remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always
  • Ability to act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy

Responsibilities
