About The Position

This position is responsible for general animal welfare and the proper confinement and disposition of animals in the Shelter. The role involves preparing food and water, receiving animals, cleaning quarters, observing animals for illnesses or injuries, performing animal handling, and assisting with euthanasia. The employee will work under minimal supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment, and must comply with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy. All necessary licenses, certifications, and clearances must be maintained without interruption.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Certification as Euthanasia Technician within one year of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to identify dog and cat breeds and various types of wildlife, including birds.
  • An understanding of and concern for all kinds of animals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food and water for shelter animals and distribute accordingly.
  • Receive animals into the shelter and perform appropriate intake functions including vaccinations and completing computer records.
  • Clean and disinfect animals' quarters.
  • Observe animals to detect illnesses and injuries; notify supervisor accordingly.
  • Perform all necessary animal handling safely and humanely.
  • Assist in or perform as necessary the euthanasia of shelter animals.
  • Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
