About The Position

The City of Maple Grove is seeking a temporary PUPS Animal Care Assistant to care for animals recovered in Maple Grove and neighboring communities. The role provides opportunities to learn proper animal-handling techniques and help reconnect pets with their families, coordinate transfers to rescues, and assist animals in finding new homes. Pets Under Police Security (PUPS), a division of the Maple Grove Police Department, serves Maple Grove, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, New Hope, Plymouth, and Robbinsdale. The facility holds lost pets, animals under bite quarantine, and animals in safekeeping holds that are recovered or turned over to law enforcement. PUPS assists owners reclaiming their pets and coordinates transfers of unclaimed pets to rescue groups. The position averages 9–15 hours per week, with weekday and weekend hours and possible holiday shifts. Candidates should have a flexible schedule and be available to provide coverage as needed. The position is open until filled.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Must have a flexible schedule and be able to provide coverage as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide animals with enrichment opportunities.
Update daily observation forms for all animals.
Provide food and water to animals in the facility.
Document lost and found pets when reported and correspond with the general public.
Answer telephone calls and respond to voicemail messages.
Release impounded animals to owners and rescue groups.
Thoroughly clean kennels and keep the facility organized and clean.
Perform basic janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying waste receptacles.
Perform additional duties related to care of the PUPS facility.
Perform general maintenance duties.
Work independently and maintain order.
