About The Position

The Animal Assistance Specialist will be responsible for providing an excellent experience every time for pets and people. The Animal Assistance Specialist will assist with the intake of owned and stray animals and provides surrender prevention resources when possible, and end-of-life services when needed. The Animal Assistance Specialist will also support to our Field Operations team when they refer pets to be surrendered over-the-counter including large-scale intakes, as well as sick and injured animals. In addition, The Animal Assistance Specialist will provide return-to-owner services and help pet owners find their lost pets. The Animal Assistance Specialist is a key AHS storyteller and will educate and inspire action by sharing our mission and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Minimum of one year providing exemplary customer service.
  • Must love working with pets and people.
  • Provide an excellent experience every time to internal & external customers in a timely and courteous, professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the intake of owned and stray animals.
  • Provide surrender prevention resources when possible.
  • Provide end-of-life services when needed.
  • Support Field Operations team with large-scale intakes, sick and injured animals.
  • Provide return-to-owner services.
  • Help pet owners find their lost pets.
  • Educate and inspire action by sharing the mission and values.
  • Record concern upon appointment check-in.
  • Perform medical exam including TPR and obtain current weight.
  • Vaccinate animals.
  • Provide resources for rehoming during surrender appointments and at the front desk.
  • Review animal profiles and determine suitability for adoption.
  • Collect Animal Assistance fees and solicit donations.
  • Relay mission and vision during checkout.
  • Pull daily Admission reports (Med Tech to Dispo list, animals without photos, bite reports, ID Check and RTO report).
  • Answer incoming Admission calls and emails.
  • Assist with end-of-life and aftercare services including collecting fees, and offering paws of remembrance and paw prints.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic tone when the outcome of a pet is not a positive one.
  • Assist good Samaritans who found or lost a pet.
  • Assist with the coordination of a return to owner and microchip clearing.
  • Collaborate with the Pet Resource Center team on surrender prevention and customer experience efforts.
