About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a pain medicine board eligible/board certified physician to join their Emory University Hospital Midtown Pain Division. The Emory Pain Center is part of Emory Healthcare, and its pain specialists are faculty members at Emory University School of Medicine, involved in research and clinical trials. Emory University Hospital is a quaternary-care academic medical center performing 25,000 anesthetic cases annually, recognized for solid organ transplants, cancer, and neurosurgery. Emory University Midtown Hospital provides anesthesia care for various complex surgeries and has a robust inpatient Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Service (RAAPM). The anesthesiology program includes residents and fellows in multiple ACGME accredited programs.

Requirements

  • M.D., D.O., or foreign equivalent.
  • Eligible to apply for a medical license in the state of Georgia.
  • American Board of Anesthesiology board certified/eligible preferred.
  • Fellowship in Pain Medicine.
  • Criteria for faculty appointment include excellence across clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of management of acute pain in hospitalized patients with chronic pain is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients in clinic for chronic pain of varying etiologies, including but not limited to chronic low back pain, neuropathy, cancer-related pain, headaches and facial pain, and fibromyalgia.
  • Perform interventional procedures for chronic pain at the ambulatory surgery center and operating room.
  • Provide perioperative nerve blocks for the operating room, including but not limited to thoracic epidural catheter placement, brachial plexus blocks, low extremity nerve blocks, and truncal blocks.
  • Inpatient consults for acute pain.
  • Teaching, via didactics and/or during patient care, of anesthesiology residents and pain management fellows.
  • Abundance of committee, leadership, and research opportunities depending on areas of interest.
