About The Position

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Anesthesiologist to provide comprehensive perioperative anesthesia care to patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures. The Anesthesiologist will be responsible for preoperative evaluation, development and administration of individualized anesthesia plans, intraoperative patient management, and postoperative care. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthetists/CRNAs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Completion of an accredited Anesthesiology residency program.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Anesthesiology.
  • Active medical license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations and assess patients' medical and anesthesia-related risks.
  • Develop individualized anesthesia plans based on the patient's medical history, procedure, and clinical needs.
  • Administer general, regional, neuraxial, and monitored anesthesia care as appropriate.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, airway, cardiovascular status, respiratory function, and level of consciousness throughout procedures.
  • Manage complex airway and hemodynamic situations and respond appropriately to intraoperative emergencies.
  • Provide appropriate pain management during and after surgical procedures.
  • Perform procedures such as arterial and central venous access when indicated and within privileges.
  • Provide postoperative evaluation and management, including assessment of pain, nausea, respiratory status, and recovery from anesthesia.
  • Participate in obstetric, pediatric, trauma, cardiac, vascular, or other subspecialty anesthesia services as applicable to the practice.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, proceduralists, CRNAs/NPs/PAs, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in emergency response, resuscitation, and critical care activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and anesthesia documentation.
  • Participate in quality-improvement, patient-safety, and departmental initiatives.
  • Educate patients and families regarding anesthesia, risks, benefits, and postoperative expectations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of anesthesia techniques, medications, equipment, and evidence-based practices.
