About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Charlestown, MA is seeking a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Technician to work alongside our board-certified Anesthesiologist. This role involves assisting in patient procedures, monitoring anesthesia, performing physical exams, managing intravenous fluids, and handling medical math. The technician will also be responsible for managing appointments, obtaining histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, and patient discharges. Continuous learning and skill expansion in advanced anesthetic techniques are expected.

Requirements

  • Compassionate and experienced Veterinary Technician.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to formulate anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Proficiency in intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform physical exams and accurately assess vital signs.
  • Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctors to abnormalities.
  • Skill in setting up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
  • Proficiency in operating all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshooting errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math.
  • Ability to manage patients through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
  • Experience with appointment management, obtaining histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, and patient discharges.
  • Ability to aseptically disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids.
  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

  • Advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
  • Perform intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
  • Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math.
  • Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
  • Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
