The Anesthesia Technician provides critical technical and clinical support to anesthesia care providers throughout the perioperative environment. This role is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment and supplies, assisting with invasive monitoring and vascular access procedures, and supporting operating room readiness for a wide range of surgical and procedural cases. Working collaboratively with anesthesiologists, anesthesia residents, CRNAs, nurses, and surgical staff, the Anesthesia Technician helps ensure the safe and efficient delivery of anesthesia services while supporting UVA Health's commitment to exceptional patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience required.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as CNA, EMT, PCT or CMA highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain anesthesia equipment, supplies, medications, and monitoring devices for surgical and procedural cases.
  • Assist anesthesia care providers during invasive monitoring procedures and vascular access placement.
  • Support the delivery of anesthesia services in the operating room, procedural, and satellite care areas.
  • Ensure anesthesia machines, airway equipment, and monitoring devices are properly functioning and available for patient care.
  • Assist with patient preparation and room setup to promote efficient case flow and procedural readiness.
  • Anticipate the needs of anesthesia providers and proactively prepare equipment and supplies for scheduled procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to maintain efficient operating room workflows.
  • Support room turnover activities to ensure readiness for subsequent cases.
  • Respond promptly to requests for equipment, supplies, and technical support during procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and well-stocked perioperative environment.
  • Perform routine equipment checks, maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting in accordance with departmental policies and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels of anesthesia supplies and communicate restocking needs.
  • Assist with the management and organization of anesthesia carts, difficult airway equipment, and specialty devices.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention standards, safety regulations, and departmental protocols.
  • Build effective working relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service in all interactions.
  • Maintain required competencies, certifications, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Contribute to a collaborative culture focused on patient safety, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence.
  • Support onboarding, training, and development of team members as appropriate.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and operational projects.
  • Demonstrate leadership and initiative in supporting perioperative services and technical patient care delivery.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
