About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Nurse, the Anesthesia Technician prepares all anesthesia supplies and equipment for use during operating procedures. This role involves identifying equipment malfunctions, troubleshooting, making minor adjustments, and reporting repairs as needed. The technician also sterilizes equipment using chemical or manual disinfection methods, prepares patients by placing EKG electrodes, probes, and monitors, and assists physicians at the bedside with intubation procedures and prepping for invasive lines. Additionally, the role includes maintaining the physical environment of OR suites and stocking areas, ensuring cleanliness before and after procedures.

Requirements

  • One year as an Anesthesia Technician or a job with relative duties.
  • Must be able to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to take measurements and adjust equipment.
  • Adherence to basic safety guidelines.
  • Ability to perform other basic duties in the OR environment.
  • Proficiency in surgical aseptic techniques according to AORN standards and recommended procedures.
  • Manual dexterity for inputting lab data and assisting with IV hookup and other equipment/instrument functions.
  • Technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with Physicians and nursing staff.
  • Ability to follow directives.
  • Ability to determine equipment, supply, and patient needs within defined scope of responsibilities.
  • Ability to write and print legibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Anesthesia Technician Certification preferred.
  • Ohmeda Equipment Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares IV fluids, blood warmers, and transducers using aseptic technique.
  • Prepares, maintains, and cleans anesthesia machines, equipment, and supplies using chemical sterilization or manual disinfection.
  • Checks equipment for proper functioning, including cables, batteries, and minor adjustments.
  • Assists physicians and nurses in attaching equipment to patients, such as monitors, pulse oximeters, EKG monitors, transducers, and warming devices.
  • Inventories, orders, and maintains supplies of cylinder gases, monitoring tank levels and adjusting as needed.
  • Stocks rooms with sterile equipment, solutions, housekeeping supplies, linens, and other necessary items.
  • Sanitizes OR suites and equipment after procedures, following safety guidelines.
  • Assists nurses and anesthesiologists with errands, obtaining supplies, monitoring patients, taking vital information, and performing patient hygiene functions.
  • Transports patients by wheelchair or gurney to and from the operating room.
  • Processes blood samples and laboratory specimens, ensuring proper packaging, labeling, and timely transport.
  • Secures laboratory results and relays them to physicians or nurses.
  • Performs data entry to complete patient lab information in the NOVA computer.
  • Performs physical environment duties, including cleaning rooms pre and post procedure.
  • Arranges for extensive clean-up through Environmental Services if needed.
  • Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
  • Adheres to and helps enforce all compliance policies.
  • Assures timely compliance education.
  • Sets an example to all staff in daily activities.
