Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Anesthesiology Job Summary Under general supervision, orders standard supplies from Central Supply, Materials Management, and Pharmacy. Works with Purchasing to obtain replacement supplies when current supplies are on back order. Maintains stock and organization of all Anesthesia workspaces in the ORs in Pavilions A, C and L, and also in procedural areas in Cardiology, GI, MRI, CT and IR and the Anesthesiology workroom and other work areas as needed. Stocks supplies. Cleans and tests equipment functionality according to department standards and/or type of equipment. Works with Biomed and Sterile Processing to maintain JCAHO standards for equipment functioning, repairs, storage and special processing. Assists providers at the bedside in emergencies by providing equipment support and patient care. This may include running blood pumps and/or performing CPR assistance. Pulls medications on provider request from Pyxis machines in Anesthesia Workrooms when needed.

Requirements

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program
  • 1-3 years Experience working in an Operating Room setting.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association
  • Skilled in the use and maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and other hospital employees.
  • Ability to assist with patients who may need ICU ventilators, high-risk intubations and facilitate fiber optic intubations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Epic and Lawson, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks and maintains specialized carts, per written guidelines, as well as drawers of anesthesia gas machines.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are readily available for anesthesia caregivers.
  • Orders and restocks inventory supplies on a daily basis. Ensures department par levels are always on hand.
  • Provides anesthesia caregivers, in a timely fashion, with equipment, supplies, drugs and patient care support as requested.
  • Maintains adequate supply of sterilized circuits and suction set-ups assembled to provide for a minimum of a 24-hour period.
  • Cleans, trouble shoots and tests all reusable equipment after each case with approved products and delivers any equipment requiring Sterilization or HLD to the SPD team.
  • Ensures equipment consistently meets Universal Infection Control standards.
  • Sets up anesthesia gas machines for induction of anesthesia in the O.R. and other anesthetizing locations. Performs function check.
  • Replaces bulbs in blade handles, supply batteries for handles, etc.
  • Assembles percutaneous tracheal ventilation (PTV) kits in accordance with written specifications.
  • Ensures safety and proper working condition of reusable equipment.
  • Expedites replacement of anesthesia supplies/equipment in operating rooms assigned to each day, as patient turnover occurs.
  • Discards used circuit/suction lines. Replaces with ready-to-use materials appropriate for next patient.
  • Assists anesthesia caregivers in transport of patients to or from the O.R., or provide other assistance as requested.
  • With limited access, maintains supplies only in the Anesthesia Pyxis Carts including stocking and system changes in partnership with pharmacy staff.
