About The Position

The Reddit Consumer Engineering organization builds and scales the products that Redditors use directly to discover content, participate in communities, and connect with others. Sitting at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems and core user journeys, Android Software Engineers in Consumer Engineering work with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Backend Engineers, and other mobile engineers to build, experiment with, and scale the experiences that help hundreds of millions of users discover, join, navigate, and engage with Reddit. This centralized role hires across several high-impact consumer teams, including: Core Product & Feeds: Home Experience, Recommendations & Content Discovery, Contribution; Community & Presence: Reddit Pro, Youth Experience & Teen Safety, Creator Tools; Growth & Engagement: Authentication, Notifications, Social Sharing, SEO, Onboarding; Monetization & Conversion: Paid User Acquisition, Conversion Funnel Optimization; Identity & Security: Account Management, Trust & Safety.

Requirements

  • An experienced Android engineer who has built and shipped consumer-facing native applications at scale using Kotlin.
  • A strategic, product-minded partner who connects technical decisions to user and business outcomes and can lead through ambiguity.
  • A clear and collaborative communicator who can explain complex tradeoffs, influence stakeholders, and build alignment across teams.
  • A curious, adaptable, and ownership-oriented teammate who embraces experimentation, learns from setbacks, improves processes, and helps others succeed.
  • Professional experience developing native Android applications with Kotlin and a strong understanding of Android frameworks and application architecture.
  • Ability to write idiomatic, readable, reusable, and testable code, with strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Experience designing mobile systems and interfaces, evaluating architectural tradeoffs, and building scalable features from APIs through user-facing UI.
  • Experience with experimentation, feature flags, instrumentation, analytics, and product or quality-of-experience metrics.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Android accessibility, Media3 or ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, HLS or DASH, recommendation systems, or ML-integrated products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve user-facing Android experiences that help people discover, consume, create, and engage with content and communities.
  • Lead projects through the full development lifecycle, from product definition and technical design to implementation, experimentation, launch, and ongoing improvement.
  • Partner with product, design, data science, ML, backend, and platform teams to shape strategy, translate technical capabilities into intuitive experiences, and deliver measurable user impact.
  • Improve Android architecture, performance, reliability, accessibility, developer workflows, and engineering standards while mentoring teammates and driving cross-functional technical initiatives.
