About The Position

Responsible for implementing new features and experiences as well as ensuring the highest quality of our mobile Android Sonos app. Create architecture technical designs for the Android Sonos Application and implement features and experiences in the Sonos App. Bring deep Android development knowledge and experience to the team. Use Kotlin Multi Platform, Kotlin, Python, git, Jira, Figma and other related tools. Collaborate with software engineers, PM, and UX to design and deliver powerful new capabilities to developers building on the Sonos app experience. Use data and telemetry to both debug and measure our software experience. Use Snowflake, Tableau, and AI to collect and analyze telemetry and diagnostics data. Create correlations between different data types to infer usage patterns. Be a Project Lead. Use Jira and Spreadsheets to create timelines and track information. Participate in the team process, using Agile methodologies to adapt and continuously improve. Use excellent communication skills to connect with teammates all over the globe. Mentor teammates in best practices for developing software.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Science and Applications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of experience in the offered position or related position.
  • Experience programming for Android in Kotlin and Java to develop and maintain consumer electronics companion app that integrates with streaming services as well as to build reliable navigation systems, content browsing interfaces, and playback controls in the consumer electronics industry to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Experience developing, testing and shipping production features within an Android app available in the Google Play Store, including implementing navigation architecture, content browsing screens, playlist management, and the Now Playing screen for controlling audio playback.
  • Experience investigating issues and solving problems, including app performance degradation during playback of streaming services, UI rendering bugs, app crashes in playlist management flows, and accessibility issues with TalkBack.
  • Experience with SDKs written in Kotlin used by application which deals with music service providers and player hardware.
  • Experience profiling and resolving performance issues in the Android app, including identifying and fixing UI lag during playback of Local Music, AirPlay, and SiriusXM live stations, and optimizing screen transitions and rendering performance across the app's navigation system.
  • Experience designing APIs to provide consistent, context-aware navigation headers and experience integrating with mobile SDKs for streaming services.
  • Experience with common source code control systems (git) for code management across the Android app codebase, including feature branching, pull request-based code review, cherry-picking fixes to release branches, and managing continuous integration pipelines for a large multi-team mobile application.
  • Experience serving as the project/technical lead for part of a major navigation architecture initiative involving the redesign of APIs, screen session tracking, telemetry instrumentation, and cross-screen navigation behavior.
