About The Position

This full-time position is responsible for facilitating the accessioning and preparation of inpatient, outpatient, and outreach anatomic pathology specimens. The role involves entering patient data and physician order information into various systems, providing excellent customer service, and transporting specimens according to QA and department policies. The technician will prioritize registrations based on patient acuity, maintain knowledge of insurance plans, and ensure the accuracy of registration data. They will also follow proper safety and identification procedures for patients and specimens.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Lab tech or equivalent related clinical experience.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates technical skills.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to customer service.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility and calmness in stress situations.
  • Superior skills in problem analysis, problem solving, and structured thinking.

  • Two years anatomic pathology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the accessioning and preparation of inpatient, outpatient and outreach anatomic pathology specimens in a timely manner.
  • Enters patient data and physician order information into various systems.
  • Provides excellent customer service to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Transports specimens to various lab departments in accordance with QA and department policies and procedures.
  • Prioritizes registrations in the order of the patient's acuity level.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and skills to identify insurance plans correctly and updates the patient information and the insurance database.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of registration data by reviewing the patient and order information prior to ordering in the various LIS systems.
  • Recognizes and follows up on incomplete or inconsistent registration information and contacts Client Services to obtain the needed information.
  • Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens.
  • Properly identifies patients prior to placing orders.
  • Labels specimens correctly.
  • Notifies coworkers and involved lab sections when misidentifications are encountered.
