Analytics Engineer

Convene Hospitality Group
•$120,000 - $160,000

About The Position

Convene Hospitality Group (CHG) is hiring Analytics Engineers for its Technology organization to build a foundational data platform that makes trusted data accessible across the company. Analytics Engineers own the path from ingestion through visualization, including governance and observability. They bring data in from source systems, model it through bronze, silver, and gold layers, define the semantic layer, and support visualizations, conversational analytics, and business agents. The role is part of the Data Platform team, reports to the Engineering Manager, and works with other analytics engineers and business partners. The platform uses Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran, including Snowflake-native semantic views and Cortex to support ThoughtSpot and other tools. The role also emphasizes AI-agent-assisted development, with specifications, guardrails, and the same review standards applied to agent-generated and teammate-generated work.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or BI development building data products people rely on.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience building and maintaining production dbt models.
  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse; Snowflake is preferred.
  • Experience with ELT ingestion tools such as Fivetran and troubleshooting source-data issues, including schema changes, late-arriving data, and API limits.
  • Understanding of dimensional modeling and medallion layering, including grain, slowly changing dimensions, and event lifecycles.
  • Experience building dashboards or self-service data products used for decision-making.
  • Habit of testing and documenting work.
  • Business curiosity and willingness to understand the decision a request supports before building.
  • Experience using AI agents for multi-step work such as writing SQL and dbt models, generating tests, and drafting documentation, with verification of their output.
  • Ability to explain work clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Ownership, follow-through, willingness to ask for help when stuck, and an interest in improving processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience evaluating LLM or natural-language analytics output, such as through golden sets or regression testing.
  • Experience in hospitality, events, real estate, or another customer-centric, multi-location business.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance, Sales, Operations, and venue teams to understand business needs and build trusted models and metrics.
  • Set up and maintain Fivetran connectors, land source data in bronze, and address schema drift and load failures.
  • Build dbt models across bronze, silver, and gold layers, shaping gold models to reflect CHG’s business and make data understandable beyond the data team.
  • Define and maintain the semantic layer, including metrics, dimensions, relationships, synonyms, and descriptions; investigate incorrect answers and determine where definitions should live.
  • Build ThoughtSpot models and Liveboards that enable self-service exploration, and translate real user questions into test cases.
  • Test conversational analytics using golden question sets and certified answers; run regression suites for model and semantic changes and block releases that fail.
  • Back models with dbt tests and clear documentation.
  • Apply governance standards, including tagging sensitive data at ingestion, tag-based masking, access controls, and row access policies.
  • Monitor data freshness, quality, and pipeline health; tune dbt models and warehouse sizing to improve speed and manage Snowflake costs.
  • Use AI agents to complete end-to-end data tasks, review agent output to the same standard as human work, share learnings, and help establish practices for agentic data work.

Benefits

  • Annual incentive performance bonus plan.
  • Day-one health coverage for the employee and family.
  • 24/7 virtual care and emotional well-being support.
  • Fertility and family-planning benefits.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Birthday off.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Year-end holiday closure.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Support for education, courses, and certifications.
  • Career growth opportunities and recognition programs.
  • Volunteer and give-back opportunities.
