About The Position

This position is open exclusively to only current Northeastern University Co-Op students. Work Period: January 2027 to June 2027. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with 5 days in office. Pioneering Medicines (PM) is dedicated to conceiving and developing a broad portfolio of life-changing treatments by leveraging and expanding the use of Flagship’s multiple bioplatforms and Flagship’s proprietary innovation process. By harnessing the power of Flagship’s first-in-category platforms, Pioneering Medicines creates and advances novel medicines, partnering with Flagship companies to accelerate the extension of their portfolios into new areas and show that the platform can be applied more broadly, thereby delivering benefits to more patients, sooner. With a highly experienced drug development team and access to the wide ecosystem of Flagship companies, Pioneering Medicines is well positioned to conceive new medicine ideas both internally and in collaboration with strategic partners and advance these assets through to significant value inflection. Pioneering Medicines currently has multiple programs ongoing with plans to have more than 20 programs in 2025-2026. Pioneering Medicines works with external strategic partners including Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and continues to engage in discussions on potential partnerships. By the end of the program, participants will have a meaningful project outcome, a genuine network, and a front-row view of how Flagship pioneers new ventures that change the world.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
Hands-on experience building applications - not just coursework, but ideally projects you can show us (GitHub repos, deployed apps, and side projects all count)
Familiarity with at least some of: React/JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS, SQL, or similar
Experience with or strong interest in AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Vercel, Claude Code, GitHub, Copilot, Replit Agent, etc.)
Comfort working with ambiguity, you'll often get a problem, not a spec
Ability to work on-site in Cambridge, MA

Nice To Haves

You've built something with an LLM API (Claude, OpenAI, etc.)
Experience with data visualization libraries (Recharts, D3, Plotly)
Familiarity with life sciences, pharma, or drug development
You've contributed to open-source projects or have a portfolio/blog showing your work

Responsibilities

Build and iterate on React-based dashboards and internal web apps that track drug development portfolios, resource forecasting, and program milestones
Create AI-powered workflows to automate document generation, data extraction, and reporting
Connect data across systems (Smartsheet, SharePoint, Benchling, and others) into unified, usable tools
Prototype new approaches, if you find a better way to solve a problem, pitch it and build it
Work directly with senior leaders across CMC functions to understand their pain points and turn them into working software
