About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Modeling, the Analyst – Sustainability Data will lead the development and analysis of numerous aspects of the recycling systems in states with active EPR programs where CAA is the PRO. This role is part of the Data and Analytics team that is one of three pillars on the National Program Operations team, which also includes Policy & Regulatory Compliance and Materials Services. This role will support strategic decision making by building models estimating the material available for recycling, along with costs for interventions, and ongoing performance.

Requirements

  • Experience with solid waste and recycling data, including community recovery, waste characterization, MRF inbound and outbound data, and others.
  • Familiarity with data validation, governance, and integration best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify actionable insights.
  • Advanced Excel skills for building waste flow and financial models.
  • Ability to leverage data science and analysis tools such as Python and Jupyter notebooks.
  • Ability to work internally and with a broad range of interested parties to create analyses that can drive forward strategy development and inform operational teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders inside and outside the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, preciseness, and compliance.
  • Ability to engage with teams across the organization, with direct or indirect reporting lines.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, including working with remote employees across varied geographies and time zones.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment working at a rapid pace with flexibility.
  • 5+ years of experience with data analysis and data visualization required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SQL is a plus.
  • Ability to synthesize and visualize data through tools like Power BI is preferred.
  • Degree in Business, Engineering, Scientific, IT, Marketing or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with solid waste and recycling data analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain analytical models to assess the performance and potential of CAA’s investments to achieve our goals as outlined in statute and in our program plan in each state.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, analyze, and interpret data related to strategic modeling projects including supply and recovery estimates for each state program.
  • Work with Finance to utilize historical costs for future projections.
  • Prepare reports and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update the Cost to Manage model – a model that is critical for CAA’s approved fee setting methodology.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes related to recycling and printed paper and packaging EPR.
  • Ensure data integrity and confidentiality in all analyses and reporting.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
