Analyst Programmer II
About The Position
The University of Maine System (UMS) is seeking an Analyst Programmer II to join our Enterprise Services team. This is an opportunity for an application developer to work with enterprise systems that support students, faculty, and employees across Maine's public universities. The Analyst Programmer II develops, maintains, and supports administrative applications used throughout the University of Maine System. Working as part of a collaborative technical team, this position performs moderately complex application development and operational support work, including developing new functionality, enhancing existing applications, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting application upgrades. The successful candidate will bring strong programming and problem-solving skills, an interest in enterprise application development, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience with PeopleSoft or Oracle technologies is valuable but is not required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One to three years of experience as a programmer in application development or operational support capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, document, maintain, and enhance computer-based applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices, development standards, and application security principles.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete moderately complex assignments with a degree of independence.
- Ability to learn and apply new programming languages, tools, technologies, and development practices.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with higher education or another complex enterprise environment.
- Database-driven or secure web application development.
- PeopleSoft and related Oracle database and development technologies.
- SQL and relational database systems.
- PeopleCode, Application Engine, Application Packages, SQR, or Query.
- Programming or scripting languages such as Java, PHP, Python, or similar languages.
- Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- UNIX/Linux environments and scripting languages.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, implement, document, and maintain enterprise application functionality and enhancements.
- Troubleshoot application and production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Support reliable and secure production application environments, including participation in on-call support as needed.
- Apply secure coding, testing, documentation, version-control, and application development standards.
- Collaborate with technical teams, business analysts, process owners, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Support application upgrades and work with vendors and other technical partners as needed.
- Develop technical documentation, share knowledge with team members, and stay current with relevant programming tools, technologies, and development practices.
