About The Position

The Modeling and Simulation Analyst reports to the MSTP Program Manager and receives work direction derivatives from the Modeling and Simulation Section Lead. This role involves operating, providing instruction, and maintaining computer-based training for various simulations and models across different military functional areas. The analyst will research documents for factual data, analyze functional areas to identify strengths and weaknesses, edit doctrinal manuscripts, and translate real-world force structures into simulation databases. Responsibilities also include conducting pre-event tests, attending conferences, participating in training events, advising response cell members, conducting post-event critiques, analyzing emerging simulation technologies, documenting simulation properties, and training/operating new models or upgrades. The lead analyst will supervise the activities of the Analyst Section, provide guidance to contract personnel, coordinate and supervise assigned tasks, conduct advanced section training, and assist government counterparts. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; four years of DoD modeling and simulation experience will serve in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum three years of experience in military training and education.
  • Minimum five years operational experience in the functional area of Maneuver (specifically Infantry, Armor or Engineering), Aviation (both rotary and fix wing), Logistics, Fires (specifically, Artillery and Naval Surface Fires), and/or Military Intelligence and methods of meeting training and readiness standards during computer-assisted exercises (demonstrated ability to operate, provide instruction, and maintain a variety of computer based training for simulations/models in said warfighting functions).
  • Minimum three years of demonstrated knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships at MAGTF or joint/combined command level as measured by actual operational experience (real world operations is desired).
  • Minimum two years in DoD modeling and simulation, and have previous experience with MTWS, and/or other simulation models such as VBS, JCATS, JSAF, OneSAF, WARSIM, AWSIM, CBS, or JTLS.
  • Excellent computer skills required. Proficient in all MS Office products with the ability to quickly learn additional systems.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills – able to solve problems.
  • Must be familiar with MEF and Combatant Command Operations Plans / Contingency Plans.
  • Must be capable of understanding the effects of weapons systems whose capabilities are retained above the SECRET//NOFORN level.
  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.

Nice To Haves

  • Attendance at Career Level School (e.g. MOS specific Advanced Course or USMC EWS – or higher) is desired. Completion of equivalent nonresident course is acceptable.
  • Certifications in Linux, A+, Network+, VM Ware, and Security+ are desired.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and C2PC is desired.
  • Direct participation in real world operations is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, provide instruction, and maintain a variety of computer-based training for simulations/models with respect to Maneuver (specifically Infantry, Armor or Engineering), Aviation (both rotary and fixed wing), Logistics, Fires (specifically, Artillery and Naval Surface Fires), and/or Military Intelligence Operations.
  • Research documents and extracts for factual data describing the composition of military forces in a model/simulation.
  • Provide analysis of a functional area (aviation, ground combat, command and control, combat service support, intelligence, and opposing forces) and identify strengths and weakness as they occur during a simulation-supported event.
  • Edit doctrinal manuscripts, analyze problem areas, and postulate feasible solutions for implementation in simulation training events.
  • Translate real world or fictional enemy and friendly force structures into an exercise simulation database/batch file.
  • Conduct pre-event tests and evaluation of supporting databases, and parametric data.
  • Attend conferences and meetings at both home station and other off-site locations, providing recommendations and analysis of model/simulation employment both in preparation for and during exercises.
  • Participate in structured simulation training events/exercises, and simulated rehearsals of operational plans/orders.
  • Analyze the functional area and advise the response cell members as to the best method of implementing a course of action given the strengths and weaknesses of the simulation.
  • Conduct post-event critique and analysis employing various after action review tools/applications.
  • Analyze emerging simulation technologies against stated requirements to include; drafting test plans, conducting tests, publishing test results, and maintaining/archiving simulation based training scenarios (i.e. organizational databases, tactics, weapon system capabilities, doctrine, and force structures) for use in preparation of future exercises.
  • Document the salient properties of the simulation being evaluated and their relevance to Marine Corps or Joint training.
  • As it relates to the functional area, is capable of training, operating, and maintaining new models/simulations or upgrades to current models/simulations as they are introduced.
  • Supervise the activities of the Analyst Section in the functional area such as Ground, Fires, Maritime and Logistics.
  • Provide guidance, direction and supervision of contract personnel.
  • Coordinate and supervise assigned tasks; conduct and evaluate advanced level section training related to the Analyst Section.
  • Assists government counterparts in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
