About The Position

As an Analyst, Indirect Tax, you will be responsible for understanding, analyzing, and researching sales tax transactions. You will develop your technical skills and knowledge of our clients' businesses, sharing your knowledge and growth-focused feedback with colleagues to support their development. Your role will involve researching tax legislation, writing reports, and making recommendations and providing solutions to clients. You will actively engage in sales tax compliance, planning, and/or strategy development by analyzing client tax issues, relevant tax law, provisions, and jurisprudence. This includes performing research and preparing correspondence in respect of sales tax issues such as reorganizations, cross-border strategies, and other tax planning opportunities. You will liaise with clients and tax authorities for audits, assessments, appeals, and disclosures, conducting research on related tax issues, legislative matters, or administrative positions. Additionally, you will review election requirements, assist with the preparation of elections and voluntary disclosure returns, and proactively liaise with professional colleagues. You will also assist with the overall development of the Doane Grant Thornton brand through internal and external activities and industry knowledge.

  • Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and ability to grasp new technology tools.
  • Completed undergraduate degree with outstanding academic credentials, preferably in tax, business or accounting
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in public practice is preferred, with expressed experience working with Canadian Sales Tax

Nice To Haves

  • A CPA designation or relevant work experience would be an asset
