About The Position

This is a part-time, regular professor position for the course "Analyse, écriture et argumentation II" (FRA1720 Section D) during the Winter 2027 academic period at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Arts, Department of French. The course focuses on deepening university-level writing skills, covering all stages from idea generation to style correction. It involves numerous exercises based on texts to enhance analytical, structuring, argumentation, and writing abilities. The section is delivered in person, with a three-hour weekly class session, though part of the course content is available on Brightspace. The course utilizes a 'flipped classroom' pedagogical approach, promoting active learning by first exposing students to theoretical content through self-directed activities, followed by a structured lecture to clarify and deepen concepts. The syllabus, including texts, session structure, and theoretical content, is predetermined. A professor's guide will be available before the session begins. Professors teaching this course must use the Brightspace 'toolkit' developed by the Department and SAEA, and adhere to all points in the Guide to Faculty, ensuring uniformity in evaluations and strict adherence to the established schedule across all sections. Professors are responsible for a portion of the grading (according to established rules), overseeing grading by teaching assistants, and supervising teaching assistants during exams. Responsibilities include preparing PowerPoints, explanatory documents, answer keys, participating in coordination team discussions, and managing a high volume of emails from students, teaching assistants, the coordinator, and other professors teaching the same course. The role requires strong collaboration skills with the pedagogical team, especially given potentially tight deadlines. Proficiency with communication and teaching tools like TEAMS, Microsoft Outlook, ZOOM, Brightspace, and EXCEL is expected, or a willingness to acquire these skills. Professors must be physically present as the course is in person.

Requirements

Doctorate in French Literature or an equivalent field.
Previous experience teaching at least one literature course.
Ability to work collaboratively with the pedagogical team.
Competence with or willingness to acquire skills in communication and teaching tools (TEAMS, Microsoft Outlook, ZOOM, Brightspace, EXCEL).
Must be physically present for in-person instruction.

Responsibilities

Overseeing grading performed by teaching assistants.
Supervising teaching assistants during exams.
Preparing PowerPoints, explanatory documents, and answer keys.
Participating in coordination team discussions.
Managing a high volume of emails from students, teaching assistants, the coordinator, and other professors teaching the same course.
