About The Position

Arlington Community Schools is seeking an AMS SPED Teacher Assistant for the 26-27 school year. The goal of this position is to assist students and teachers in meeting stated educational goals. This role involves supporting students with special needs, reinforcing learning, and assisting teachers with various classroom activities. The position requires adherence to safety rules, maintaining positive working relationships, and participating in required training.

Requirements

  • Obtained an associate's or higher degree; or Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or Passed a test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Two years' experience working with children
  • Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students, teachers, and others as directed.
  • Assisting students with toileting, feeding, and any other special needs.
  • Administer, score, and record such achievements and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned.
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills.
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment.
  • Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely.
  • Familiar with IEP accommodations and able to follow and implement accommodations outlined in the document.
  • Successfully participates in required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, school principal, and/or Superintendent.
