About The Position

To perform and complete the activities associated with meter reading, device programming, and customer credit functions in an efficient and professional manner, and in accordance with regulatory requirements and Company Standards.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be regular in attendance and have a good safety record.
  • Must have the ability to interact with customers effectively and in a pleasant, business-like manner.
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Must have demonstrated computer and typing skills.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to read meters and devices accurately and use electronic reading devices.
  • Must be able to obtain applicable Operator Qualification (O.Q.) certification based upon the requirements set forth in DOT 49 CFR 192, Subpart N.
  • Must pass applicable Operator Qualification testing.
  • Must pass DOT Drug Screen if not presently working in a covered position.
  • Will be drug tested under the PHMSA drug pool.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License based on the requirements of the State where the employee resides.
  • Must be apt with figures and have ability to maintain required records satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain a DBid badge to access the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
  • Must have the necessary fitness and ability to perform assigned work.
  • Must be able to accept assignments in a company-declared emergency and be available to work overtime.
  • Incumbent may be required to work in inclement weather conditions as determined by supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Install and program AMR devices on meter indexes in accordance with company procedures.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and replace AMR devices as required.
  • Electronically record all associated data with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform meter work orders with attention to detail and accuracy of written results (meter size, meter number, location, dials, drive rate, etc.).
  • Assist in preparing meters for shipment to testing vendor and validating test results as needed.
  • Assist in collecting meter inventory data.
  • Complete automated meter reading cycles under strict daily scheduling requirements.
  • Perform daily mobile route computer data processing.
  • Complete meter lock outs and customer postings in accordance with company credit procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to consistently follow, and be committed to the behaviors associated with the Company’s Core Principles (Commitment/Achievement; Empowerment; Teamwork; Respect; Open Communications; Ethical Practice).
  • Report gas leaks and bypasses immediately.
  • Perform other work related to the department as assigned.
  • Provide backup coverage to other team members as required.
