About The Position

The Bletz Lab is seeking a part-time worker to assist with multiple aspects of their research on amphibians and infectious diseases. The lab focuses on understanding diseases affecting frogs and salamanders, their global spread, and potential treatments. They maintain a colony of amphibians and are developing methods for captive breeding to enhance disease resistance and produce individuals for experimental treatments. Additionally, the lab has ongoing projects involving amphibians, disease, and the pet trade, requiring sample preparation and processing using microbiological and molecular techniques. This position is for the Fall 2026 Semester with potential for future semesters.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Penn State student (not previously employed by the university) or an external applicant.
  • Ability to participate in amphibian research projects.
  • Ability to design and set up breeding plans for frogs and salamanders.
  • Ability to perform maintenance of terrariums.
  • Ability to perform molecular and microbial sampling processing.
  • Willingness to learn about daily amphibian care and health monitoring.
