About The Position

Shalom Austin is seeking an AmeriCorps Community Support & Engagement Member to join their organization. This role will support programs that promote understanding, inclusion, and meaningful connections among diverse groups in the Austin community. The AmeriCorps Member will help coordinate educational experiences that increase understanding of Jewish history, culture, traditions, and community life. A key focus is supporting opportunities for Jewish teens and community members to share their lived experiences, and assisting with Shalom Austin’s disability and inclusion initiatives, including the RAISE employment program, by providing employment and social skills support for RAISE employees. This is a part-time position requiring a total service commitment of 300 hours (approximately 12 hours per week), running from September 14th to May 14th, 2027.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Interest in education, community engagement, social services, nonprofit work, disability inclusion, or intercultural relations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with teens and people from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Comfort and experience with interviewing, case management, coaching clients in-person and online.
  • Working knowledge of Greater Austin social service resources and referrals.
  • Adheres to legal and ethical standards of care, incl scope of practice, client privacy and record-keeping, HIPAA, and cultural competency.
  • Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field are preferred.
  • Individuals retired from a related field are also encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with Jewish cultural traditions and community engagement is helpful.
  • Experience with event planning, education, disability services, or community programs is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and facilitating cultural and educational programs, workshops, and presentations.
  • Support interactive learning experiences that increase understanding of Jewish traditions, history, and contemporary Jewish life.
  • Help prepare educational materials, presentations, and participant resources.
  • Maintain attendance records and program data that support educational programming and participant engagement.
  • Assist with scheduling, logistics, and event coordination.
  • Help gather participant feedback and track program outcomes.
  • Support the RAISE employment program for adults with disabilities through volunteer engagement, program coordination, and job coaching.
  • Help coordinate training materials and ongoing support for job coaches.
  • Support programs that engage Jewish teens as educators, storytellers, and community ambassadors.
  • Assist with coordinating school visits, community presentations, and dialogue-based programs.
  • Help create welcoming opportunities for participants from diverse backgrounds to learn from one another.
  • Assist with outreach to schools, community organizations, and partner agencies.
  • Support communication with participants, educators, and community partners.
  • Help recruit participants and promote educational opportunities.
  • Create and organize educational materials, discussion guides, and cultural learning resources.
  • Support the development of content related to Jewish identity, inclusion, disability awareness, and community engagement.
  • Help maintain resource libraries and digital program materials.
