About The Position

The State of Ohio is seeking growth-minded individuals to contribute to an inclusive culture within an interdisciplinary team for the American Sign Language Online Teacher position within the Statewide Services and Outreach Division. This division focuses on student evaluation, district consultation and providing educational supports, community and professional partnerships for statewide education, and family collaboration and supports. The mission of Statewide Services and Outreach is to serve all of Ohio's students who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Visually Impaired or Deafblind by providing supports and resources for families, school districts, and their stakeholders. The dedicated staff provide services to families and educators, respecting the student's communication modality. The position's purpose is to teach ASL (levels 1-4) to hearing, deaf, and hard of hearing high school (possibly including 8th grade) students attending Ohio’s public schools through the ASL Online program.

Requirements

  • Must maintain valid Ohio teaching licensure for grade level, subject area or special class assignment.
  • Must demonstrate Advanced level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) within one year of hire, Intermediate level minimum requirement at hire.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to submit a urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to an appointment.
  • The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result.
  • An applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for a position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year.
