The roles and responsibilities of a school-based paraprofessional for the hearing impaired/intervener are relative to the needs of the individual student who is HI/Deaf. This role facilitates interaction between an individual student with HI/Deaf and their social and physical environment, providing primary access to their receptive and expressive communication. The specialist identifies and maximizes opportunities for the student's educational progress and overall development, including motor, sensory, and social/emotional aspects. This position involves providing input to the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, supporting the modification of instruction and development of educational materials, and documenting the educational progress of the student as directed. When needed, the specialist will develop appropriate educational materials relative to the individual student's needs as directed by the student’s teacher(s).
