About The Position

TheraPeds Partners is a therapist-owned and operated organization that partners with schools nationwide to provide American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) services to PreK–12 students. As special education providers, they understand the education process, IDEA requirements, and the importance of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Their mission is to deliver high-quality ASL services while fostering meaningful connections in a collaborative learning environment. This is a full-time, on-site role for the 2026-2027 school year (August-May) in Albemarle, North Carolina, serving a Grade 6 student. The role involves providing ASL services in a classroom setting and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, requiring strong communication, interpersonal skills, and a passion for working with students with special needs. Dual support is provided by both the District and TheraPeds.

Requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for working with students with special needs
• American Sign Language Interpretation Certification
• EIPA score (3.5+)
• Passing written test
• Documentation submitted to CDE
• Fluency in ASL and English
• Strong receptive and expressive ASL skills
• RID certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
• Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or ASL-English interpreting degree
• Experience interpreting in K-12 classrooms
• Knowledge of IDEA and IEP processes
• Background check and fingerprinting
• Ability to support students throughout the school day
• Organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications
