About The Position

The Ambulatory Surgery Team Lead is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, exhibiting a high standard of courtesy and cooperation with co-workers, patients, and visitors, and achieving satisfactory job performance. The Team Lead carries out nursing interventions safely and accurately, utilizing knowledge, judgment, and skill to implement physicians’ orders and the nursing plan of care. They demonstrate effective communication skills and work independently with limited direct supervision, following policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment. This position prioritizes workloads in coordination with team members and the OR Nurse Manager, administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully, and coordinates patient schedules. The Team Lead effectively coordinates and assumes job responsibilities of team members during absences, ensures needed supplies and equipment are available, and creates a positive working environment that fosters growth and job satisfaction for team members. Documentation in the nursing unit and patient records is performed accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner. The role supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures, initiates and maintains IV and Venous Access Ports (VAP) according to Hospital policies, and assists with lab draws as needed. The Team Lead operates IV pumps, applies and maintains Wound Vac Pumps, performs dressing changes, and assists with minor procedures in the procedure room with providers. They also assist in Surgery with Admission and Discharge when needed, operate all equipment, and perform all procedures in the nursing department. Demonstrates knowledge, abilities, and skills required for a wide variety of nursing functions. Mathematical ability is necessary for computing drug dosages accurately. Completion of unit-specific competencies is required annually. In addition to the functions described above, this role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned based on Community Memorial Hospital needs. This includes coordinating staffing needs (scheduling, time off requests, payroll duties), overseeing and being responsible for PACU, Pre & Post (ASU), PAT, and Endo, and placing supply orders for Endo and ASU.

Requirements

  • A valid NYS Nursing License from an Accredited School of Nursing/University/College
  • Outstanding organizational ability.
  • A great team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Even-tempered with emotional and physical stamina.
  • At least five years of Ambulatory Surgery experience required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Successful completion of ACLS course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
  • Successful completion of PALS course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with high-acuity orthopedic procedures, Endoscopy procedures, Transfusions, Cardiac Procedures and dressing changes.
